What is GitHub

what is git-hub? GitHub is a project management and code versioning system as well as a social networking platform made for developers, codes, hackers and programmers. But what is GitHub used for? Well, almost all, it allows you to work collaboratively with other users people around the globe, you can easily store your work and plan your projects and track your work.

you can also able to called GitHub as a online store because GitHub is one of the largest and most popular online storehouses of collaborative work around the globe, for Developer, programmers, hackers, or coders etc...

What is Git?

Before we go further, we have to understand Git as the heart of GitHub, soul of body. Git is version control system developed by Linus Torvalds (the person who created or invented Linux).

What is a version control system?

When developers make a new project, they can always continue with making different types of updates for the code. Even after the projects goes live, they still need to update their program versions, to fix bugs, add new features, etc.

The version control system helps to track the changes made to the code base by the Programmer or developer. Even more, it records who made the changes and can restore the erased or modified the code.

There are no overwritten in codes since Git saves different multiple copies in the repository.

If Git is a Heart of GitHub, then Hub is soul of it. The hub in GitHub is what turn a command line, like Git, into the biggest social network for developers, and programmers.

contributing to a certain project, GitHub allow's users to socialize with like-minded people. You can follow many of other developers and watch what they do or who they’re connecting with.

Repository

you can also called repository as a box of any products, Repository or repo is a directory where your project’s codes, programs or files are stored. It can be located on GitHub’s storage or local repository on your laptop/computer. You can store code files, exe, images, audios, or everything related to the project in the repository easily.

GitHub is not limited for developers only

GitHub is a wonderful platform that changes how developers work. However, everyone that prefer GitHub to manage their project efficiently and work collaboratively, an GitHub gives interesting features which is useful for all there users.

If you want to work with your team and needs constantly updates and wants to track the changes made by everyone, then GitHub is suitable for you. There are other alternatives like Git-Lab, Bit Bucket, but GitHub should be in your consideration.
